Timber clad boathouse with portal frame completed with South Cumbria
Construction
Boathouses
and structures include design and construction of complete boathouses,
underpinning foundations.
We have built several complete boathouses on Windermere and the
finished product varies according to the clients personal requirements
and relevant planning permissions. We undertake the work direct
for the client, or through an architect or may construct foundations
for other non water orientated building firms.
The type of foundations depend on whether suitable bedrock is
found near to lake bed level and will determine whether the foundation
needs to be a reinforced concrete or piled foundation. The superstructure
is based on a galvanised steel portal frame and is then traditionally
clad in timber or stone faced, with a slate roof. We can undertake
to apply for the Planning, Encroachment, Environmental Agency
permissions all of which are required before any work can take
place. This is followed by the design of the foundation and superstructure
which is subject to building regulation approval. In addition
to building boathouses we also construct small buildings and structures.
We have also had experience of underpinning boathouse foundations
sometimes carried out in the water, using underwater concrete
mixes or by piling.

These have
ranged in size from small slipways for private customers houses
at 3m by 7m to 4m by 25m for commercial concerns and outdoor centres.
They can be constructed from reinforced concrete, precast concrete,
with a galvanised steel frame or steel frame and treadplates.
The slope of these is generally 1 in 12 or less.

Jetties
We have built
numerous timber jetties for vessels of all sizes from 100t to
small private jetties. These consist of timber piles driven into
the lake bed with bearers secured to support the decking. The timber
is CCA treated and the fixtures and fittings galvanised for longevity.
